I had a client call me becasue they had just layed sod in their backyard and a mother raccoon and her three babies were tearing it up.  What the raccoons do is roll back and ter up the sod to eat the grubs and worms in the dirt under the sod.  Also, if you peel back the sod, you will see that under the sod it is loaded with grubs and worms.  I have people call me to remove them because they have tried everything and nothing has worked.  People try cheyanne pepper, critter-ridder, staking the whole grass with chicken wire, and motion sprinklers.  Nothing works except trapping and removing them.  I have people that most times keep the traps at their home until the grass is impacted into the ground.  Here is a mom raccoon and three babies that I trapped that were doing all the damage.  She was probably teaching them how to survive on their own.
