This week Animal Capture Wildlife Control was called out to Topanga Canyon for an opossum removal. The client said he had noticed some opossums nesting under his deck. I cam out and did a property inspection as well as went under the deck and did an inspection. I wanted to make sure there were no vents off under the deck going under the house. I set up three traps and trapped one teenage opossum right away. Today I had a client call me out in West Hollywood becasue she walked into her bathroom this morning and saw a baby opossum running around.  I responded right away to find two baby opossums in the bathroom. The first one I found had climbed into the cabinet under the sink. When I opened the cabinet the baby opossum was just looking at me. I grabbed him and put him in a trap. I searched the rest of the bathroom to see if there were more and found another one in the linen cabinet.  I was removing the towels and bed sheets and a baby popped out under a towel. The baby opossums were really small and not really trying to bite, they just wanted to get away. They were really cute. I noticed in the bathroom the air conditioner vent was missing and figured they had torn into the air ducts and were walking in the air duct and fell into the bathroom. I did an attic inspection and found they were entering the attic through a vent that had been torn off. After entering the attic the opossums had torn into the air duct system and urinated and defecated all through the air ducts. The whole air duct system for the house needs to be replaced. I had a client call Animal Capture Wildlife Control to remove a family of opossums that were living under a dresser in their garage.  In the opossum removal I had to tilt the dresser back and get the mother opossum in a catch all pole and then get her in a trap.  Then I was able to remove the baby opossums by hand.  I do not recommend anyone grabbing opossums by the hand unless you are a trained professional.  After rounding up all the baby opossums, I put them in the trap with their mother.  I then took the opossums to a river close by and let them all up a tree.  Opossums  are a very dangerous animal and not to be messed with.  Many times I receive calls about a dog getting in a fight with an opossum.
