Today Animal Capture Wildlife Control was called out to a home in Bakersfield because there was two opossums running around on the patio. When I arrived I picked up the two opossums and put them in traps. They were not really babies, they were able to be released into the wild. They are big enough to survive on their own. This week Animal Capture Wildlife Control was called out to a home in the Eagle Rock area of Los Angeles because of raccoon babies in the attic. When I arrived the mother was no where to be found when I went into the attic and the babies had a very weak chatter. That made me think the mom hasn’t been around for at least two or three days. The baby raccoons were also very cold. I removed the baby raccoons and sealed up the attic. The baby raccoons were taken to a wildlife rehab to be raised and released into the wild. Today Animal Capture Wildlife Control was called out to a home in Brentwood because the homeowner trapped a skunk. He did not want to go close to the trap and wanted Animal Capture Wildlife Control to come out and remove the skunk. The homeowner tried trapping the skunk because the skunk was tearing up the grass. The skunk was relocated and the homeowner was happy. Animal Capture Wildlife Control was called out to Pacific Palisades for a raccoon removal. The homeowner came out of his home to find three large raccoons fighting in his tree. He was afraid because he has a small dog that the raccoons could attack. The raccoons were also drinking out of him fountain. I set up three traps and caught one large raccoon right away. Today I was in Pacific Palisades setting up traps at a clients home for raccoons and another call came in for a rattlesnake in a backyard in Pacific Palisades. I told the I was only ten minutes away. I responded right away. I went in the backyard and the rattlesnake was curled up in the garden area. The homeowner said the rattlesnake had just eaten a lizard if front of her. When I picked up the snake with tongs the snake started attacking and striking the tongs. This snake was not happy. Rattlesnakes can strike in 1/25 of a second. Quicker than the human eye can blink. They can strike half their body length. If you are ever bitten you should seek medical help immediately. I removed the snake and did an inspection of the property. The inspection consists of checking the property for dens, see what”s attracting the snakes to the property, see if there is a way to snake proof the property, and looking for more snakes.  In this case, I found the homeowner to have a rat problem around the home. There was many rat droppings in the pool house where all the equipment is and around the outside air conditioning unit. This is a common thing around the outside of homes. I even found a rattlesnake before in the poison box that pest control companies put out to control the rats. The snake was attracted in there by the scent of rats going in and out eating the poison and the rattlesnake was just waiting in there for a rat to come in to box to eat him. When people have a lot of growth like ivy, shrubs, and trees it turns into an area where rats start nesting. Then in turn the rats attract snakes. Today Animal Capture Wildlife Control was called out to a home in Hollywood for  an opossum removal. I went to the home yesterday and put traps because the family was complaining of an opossum in the attic and eating all the fruit on the trees. When I arrived I did a roof inspection and found the opossum was entering the attic from the outside where one roof overlapped another. A lot of times I find this is where the animals enter the attics. When the home is built the builder does not seal up these areas and leaves big enough holes where raccoons, opossums, squirrels, and rats enter. In the attic inspection I found many opossum droppings and insulation torn up. I set up a couple traps on the outside of the home where the trees were touching the roof and under the fruit trees. Any of these animal are able to access the roof because of trees touching the roof line. Most people that have trees touching the roof line have rats and possibly other animals. Today I had a call from a client telling me I had a skunk in the trap. Originally the Apartment complex called Animal Capture Wildlife Control out because skunks were burrowing under the foundation and coming up under the apartment building. Then the skunks had access to the whole length of the building. I have trapped one skunk prior to this one. On this occasion, the skunk was in a trap right in front of the door of the apartment and there is only one way in and out of the apartment, so they were stuck in the apartment until I came and removed the skunk. They were afraid if they came out and walked by the skunk it would spray them. Experts say skunks can spray upto twelve feet, but I believe that skunks can spray upto 7-8 feet. I came out to remove the skunk and they could finally enjoy the rest of their Saturday. Today I had a client call me out in the Altadena area of Los Angeles because her home  had a heavy skunk odor. She owns her own trap so she decided to try to trap the skunk on her own and ended up trapping a raccoon. She wanted me to come out and remove the raccoon. I also told her I would inspect around her home for her at no charge. When I arrived I removed the raccoon out of her trap and put the raccoon in one of my traps. I then did an inspection from the outside and she wanted me to come in and smell the skunk odor in the home. In the outside inspection I seen a few flies coming out around the vent area. I also went in the home to smell the skunk odor. I told her that it obviously smelled heavily of skunk, but different. In my experience the odor was a heavy skunk odor, but I was smelling was what I thought was a dead skunk. She told me to go under and do an inspection. Sure enough, I went under and found a dead skunk about twelve feet in. It was a little old and flat. The skunk had maggots, flies, and fleas all over it. It had been there for about a 6 weeks. She said she had been shelling it for a while, but just started trying to trap in. Anyways, she was glad to resolve the problem and get the dead skunk removed. Today I had a client in the Silver Lake area of Los Angeles call me out because she noticed a baby skunk that had come out of a burrow by her stairway. She put the baby in a shoebox and I responded right away. I took my flashlight and did an inspection and found five more baby skunks in the burrow. I gently pulled the skunks out one at a time and put them all in a box. They were covered in fleas and there no no sign of the mother. I took the baby skunks to a wildlife rehab where they will be raised and released into the wild.
